Finnish artists Misha and cocabona join forces with Dutch-South African vocalist Joya Mooi for their evocative new single, “The Present”. Blending alternative R&B, soulful melodies, and the signature groove of Derrick McKenzie (Jamiroquai), the track showcases rich musicality and a shared commitment to a sound that feels both timeless and forward-thinking. “The Present” is the first single from Misha and cocabona’s forthcoming collaborative EP, JOMO (“Joy Of Missing Out”), due September 26, 2025.
The track took shape during a summer 2024 session in London, where Misha and cocabona linked up with Jamiroquai drummer Derrick McKenzie, a longtime musical influence. A spontaneous jam late in the day became the foundation for “The Present.” Back in the Netherlands, Joya Mooi recorded her vocals, weaving in lyrical nuance and emotional clarity that brought the song’s message into focus.
Reflecting on the track’s message, Joya Mooi shares:
“The Present is about that moment when you stop searching for 'more' in distant places and discover that being fully present—body and soul—in the current is where real fulfillment begins. It's about having the courage to listen within, rather than following external expectations.”
